THE BOOK OF EXODUS

Exodus Chapter 15

¶ Then Moses and the children of Israel sang this song to the LORD, saying, I will sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously: he has thrown the horse and his rider into the sea.

The LORD is my strength and song, and he has become my salvation: he is my God, and I will praise him; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

The LORD is a man of war: Jahweh is his name.

He has cast Pharaoh’s chariots and his army into the sea: his chosen captains are also drowned in the Red sea.

The depths have covered them: they sank to the bottom as a stone.

Your right hand, O LORD, is glorious in power: your right hand, O LORD, has dashed the enemy to pieces.

And in the greatness of your majesty you have overthrown those who rose up against you: you send forth your wrath, which consumes them as stubble.

With the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up, the floods stood upright in a heap, and the depths congealed in the heart of the sea.

The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my will shall be carried out on them; I will draw my sword, and my hand will destroy them.

You blew with your wind, and the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters.

Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods? who is like you, glorious in holiness, awesome in splendor, doing wonders?

You stretched out your right hand, the earth swallowed them.

You in your mercy have led out the people that you have redeemed: you have guided them in your strength to your holy habitation.

The nations shall hear, and be afraid: anguish shall grip the inhabitants of Palestina.

Now the chiefs of Edom are dismayed; the mighty men of Moab, are afflicted by trembling; all the inhabitants of Canaan will melt away.

Fear and dread shall fall upon them; because of the greatness of your arm they shall be as still as a stone; until your people pass by, O LORD, until the people whom you have purchased pass by.

You will bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of your inheritance, in the place, O LORD, that you have made for your dwelling, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which your hands have established.

The LORD shall reign for ever and ever.

For the horses of Pharaoh went into the sea with his chariots and with his horsemen, and the LORD brought back the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel walked on dry land in the middle of the sea.

Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand; and all the women followed her with tambourines to which they danced.

And Miriam led them in singing, Sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; he has thrown the horse and his rider into the sea.

¶ Then Moses led Israel away from the Red sea, and they went into the wilderness of Shur; and they traveled in the desert for three days, and did not find any water.

And when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters, for they were bitter: that is why they called the place Marah.

And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What will we drink?

And he cried to the LORD; and the LORD showed him a tree, which he threw into the waters, and the waters were made sweet: there the Lord laid down a rule and a law for them, and there he tested them,

Saying, If you will diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD your God, and will do that which is right in his sight, and will give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will not bring any of the diseases upon you, that I brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD who heals you.

And they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water, and seventy palm trees: and they camped there by the waters.
