THE BOOK OF EXODUS

Exodus Chapter 7

¶ And the LORD said to Moses, Behold, I have made you like a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron your brother will be your prophet.

You will speak all that I command you: and Aaron your brother will tell Pharaoh, to let the children of Israel leave his country.

But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.

But Pharaoh will not listen to you, then I will lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring the multitudes of my people, the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.

And the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD, when I stretch out my hand on Egypt, and bring the children of Israel out from among them.

So Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD instructed them to do.

And Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron eighty-three years old, when they spoke to Pharaoh.

¶ And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

When Pharaoh says to you, Prove yourselves by doing a miracle: then you will say to Aaron, Take your rod, and throw it down before Pharaoh, and it will become a serpent.

And Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did as the LORD had instructed: and Aaron threw his rod down before Pharaoh, and his servants, and it became a serpent.

Then Pharaoh called for the wise men and the sorcerers: the magicians of Egypt, and they did the same thing by their secret arts.

For every one of them threw down his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods.

But Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he would not listen to them; as the LORD had said.

¶ And the LORD said to Moses, Pharaoh’s heart is hardened, he refuses to let the people go.

Go to Pharaoh in the morning; he will be going out to the water; and you will wait for him by the river bank; and take the rod that was changed into a snake in your hand.

And you shall say to him, The LORD God of the Hebrews has sent me to you, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the desert: and, so far you have not listened.

Therefore the LORD says, By this you will know that I am the LORD: behold, I will strike the rod that is in my hand on the water that is in the river, and it will be turned to blood.

And the fish that are in the river will die, and the river will stink; and the Egyptians will loathe to drink any water from the river.

And the LORD said to Moses, Say to Aaron, Take your rod, and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their streams, over their rivers, and over their ponds, and over all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone.

And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and struck the waters that were in the river, while Pharaoh, and his servants watched; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.

And the fish that were in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink any water from the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.

But the magicians of Egypt did the same by their secret arts: so Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he did not listen to them; just as the LORD had said.

And Pharaoh turned and went into his house, without taking this to heart.

And all the Egyptians dug around the river for water to drink; because they could not drink the water of the river.

And seven days passed, after the LORD had struck the river.
