THE BOOK OF EZEKIEL

Ezekiel Chapter 26

¶ On the first day of the month, in the eleventh year, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

Son of man, because Tyre said about Jerusalem, Good, the city that has been the gateway of the nations is broken: and has swung open to me: I will get rich, now that she is in ruins:

Therefore the Lord GOD says; Behold, I am against you, O Tyre, and will cause many nations to come up against you, as the sea sends up its waves.

And they will destroy the walls of Tyre, and break down her towers: I will also scrape the soil off of her, and make her like the top of a rock.

It will be a place for spreading out nets surrounded by the sea: for I have decreed it, says the Lord GOD: and it will become plunder for the nations.

And her villages on the mainland will be cut down by the sword; and they will know that I am the LORD.

For the Lord GOD says; Behold, I will bring Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon against Tyre, a king of kings, from the north, with horses, chariots, horsemen, a horde of people, and many troops.

He will slaughter your villages on the mainland with the sword: and he will build siege-works against you, and pile up a ramp against you, and raise up a wall of shields against you.

And he will place engines of war against your walls, and with his axes he will break down your towers.

And when he enters your gates like an army entering a breached city, his horses will be so many that their dust will cover you, and your walls will shake because of the noise of the horsemen, the wheels, and the chariots.

He will trample all of your streets with the hoofs of his horses: he will slay your people by the sword, and your strong pillars will fall to the ground.

And they will take your riches as spoils, and make booty of your merchandise: and they will break down your walls, and destroy your delightful houses: and they will dump your stones, lumber, and soil into the water.

And I will silence the sound of your songs; and the sound of your harps will be no longer be heard.

And I will make you like the top of a rock: you will be a place to spread nets upon; you will never be rebuilt: for I the LORD have decreed it, says the Lord GOD.

¶ The Lord GOD says this to Tyre; Will not the isles shake at the sound of your fall, when the wounded groan, and slaughter occurs within you?

Then all who rule by the sea will come down from their thrones, and lay aside their robes, and take off their embroidered garments: they will clothe themselves with trembling; they will sit on the ground, and will tremble every moment, and be astonished at you.

Then they will lament for you, and say of you, How have you been destroyed, you who were inhabited by seafaring men, a renowned city, that was powerful on the sea, she and her inhabitants, who caused their terror to fall on all who dwell there!

But now your fall will make the people who live by the sea tremble; and the end of you will terrify the coastal lands.

For the Lord GOD says; When I make you a city of ruins, like the cities that are not inhabited; when I raise up the deep against you, so that the mighty waters cover you;

Then I will bring you down to be with those who descend into the pit, with the people of long ago, and will make you dwell in the lower parts of the earth, like those destroyed long ago, with those who go down to the pit, so that you will not be inhabited; or shed forth your glory in the land of the living;

I will make you a terror, and you will be no more: although people look for you, you will never be found again, says the Lord GOD.
