FIRST PETER

First Peter 4

¶ Therefore since Christ physically suffered for us, arm yourselves with the same mindset: for he who has suffered physical persecution has broken with sin;

That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.

For you have spent enough time in the past doing what the Gentiles like to do, when you lived in sensuality, lust, drinking-binges, orgies, carousing, and lawless idolatry:

¶ In regard to which they think it strange that you do not run with them into the same outpouring of wild living, and speak evil of you:

But they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

To that end the gospel was preached even to those who have now been killed, that they might be judged according to men in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.

¶ But the end of all things is near: therefore be sensible, and think clearly for prayer.

And above all things have a fervent love for one another: because love covers a multitude of sins.

Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.

As each of you has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s manifold grace.

If any man speaks, let him speak according to God’s Word; if any man serves, let him do it with the ability that God gives: so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

¶ Beloved, do not be surprised by the fiery ordeal that is to try you, as though something strange were happening to you:

But rejoice, in so far as you share Christ’s sufferings; so that, when his glory is revealed, you may also rejoice with exultation.

If you are reproached for the name of Christ, you are blessed; for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you: on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.

But none of you should ever suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters.

However if anyone suffers as a Christian, he should not be ashamed; but bearing that name should glorify God.

For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God: and if it begins with us, what will be the end of those who refuse to believe the gospel of God?

And if it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will happen to the ungodly and the sinner?

Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as to a faithful Creator.
