FIRST PETER

First Peter 5

¶ I urge the elders who are among you, as a fellow elder, a witness of Christ’s sufferings, and a partaker of the glory that will be revealed:

Feed the flock of God that is under your care, overseeing it, not because you must, but willingly; not for personal gain, but with a ready mind;

Not as dictators over those in your care, but as examples to the flock.

And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of glory that will never fade away.

¶ Likewise, you who are younger, submit to the elders. Yea, all of you cooperate with each other, being clothed with humility: for God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble.

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

Casting all your care upon him; because he cares for you.

¶ Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour:

Resist him standing firm in the faith, knowing that your brethren throughout the world are suffering the same things.

¶ But the God of all grace, who has called us to his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will himself equip, confirm, strengthen, and establish you, after you have suffered a little while.

To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

I am sending this brief letter to you by Silvanus, a brother I know I can trust, to encourage you, and testify that this is the true grace of God, stand fast in it.

The church that is at Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you greetings; as does Mark, my son.

Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be with all of you who are in Christ Jesus. Amen.
