Hebrews Chapter 5
1
¶ For every high priest taken from among men is
assigned to represent them before God, in offering both gifts and sacrifices
for sins:
2
And can sympathize with the ignorant, and those who go astray; for he is
himself beset by weakness.
3
That is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the
sins of the people.
4
And no man takes that honor upon himself, he must be
called by God, as was Aaron.
5
So also Christ did not exalt himself in being made a high priest; but he who
said to him, You are my Son, today I have begotten
you.
6
Also said in another passage, You are a
priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.
7
Who during his life on earth, having brought both prayers and appeals with loud
crying and tears to the One who could save him from death, was heard because he
feared God;
8
Although he was the Son, he learned the meaning of obedience from the things
that he suffered;
9
And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all those
who do his will;
10
¶ Designated by God an high priest after the order of
Melchizedek.
11
Regarding whom there is much to say, but it is hard to explain, seeing that you
have become so slow to understand.
12
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you
the basic truths of God’s Word all over again; and have come to need milk, and
not solid food.
13
For everyone who feeds on milk is an infant: unacquainted with the teaching
about righteousness.
14
But strong food is for the mature, those who by use have trained their senses
to distinguish good from evil.
