THE BOOK OF ISAIAH

Isaiah Chapter 20

1 ¶ In the year that Sargon, the king of Assyria, sent his commander and chief to Ashdod, he fought against Ashdod, and took it;

2 At the same time the LORD spoke by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, Take off the sackcloth that is around your hips, and remove your shoes from your feet. And he did so, walking naked and barefoot.

3 And the LORD said, Just as my servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot for three years as a sign and wonder concerning Egypt and Ethiopia;

4 The king of Assyria will likewise lead the Egyptians and Ethiopians, both young and old, away naked and barefoot as captives and prisoners, with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.

5 And they will be afraid and ashamed because of Ethiopia in whom they trusted, and Egypt of whom they were proud.

6 And the inhabitants of this coastland will say in that day, Look, if this is what has happened to those we relied on, where can we run for refuge to be delivered from the king of Assyria: and how can we escape?
