THE BOOK OF ISAIAH

Isaiah Chapter 54

¶ Sing, O barren one, who did not bear; break forth into singing, and shout aloud, you who did not travail with child: for the children of the barren are more than the children of the married wife, says the LORD.

Enlarge the place of your tent, and stretch out the curtains of your home: do not hold back, lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes;

For you will spread out on the right hand and on the left; and your descendants will inherit the nations, and fill the deserted cities with people.

Do not be afraid; for you will not be put to shame: nor will you be disappointed; you will not be humiliated: for you will forget the shame of your youth, and will no longer remember the reproach of your widowhood.

For your Maker is your husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; He will be called the God of the entire earth.

¶ For the LORD has called you like a wife who has been forsaken and is in grief, like a wife of one’s youth, when you were refused, says your God.

I have forsaken you for a little while; but with great mercy I will bring you back to me.

In a burst of anger I hid my face from you for a moment; but with everlasting kindness I will have mercy on you, says the LORD your Redeemer.

For this is like the waters of Noah to me: for just as I have sworn that the waters of Noah will never again cover the earth; so have I sworn that I will not be angry with you, or rebuke you.

For the mountains will depart, and the hills will be removed; but my kindness will not depart from you, nor will the covenant of my peace be taken away, says the LORD who has mercy on you.

¶ O you who are suffering, storm-tossed, and without comfort, behold, I will lay your stones with fair colors, and your foundations with sapphires.

And I will make your windows of agates, your gates of sparkling stones, and all your walls of precious stones.

And the LORD will teach all your children; and great will be the peace of your children.

You will be established in righteousness: and oppression will be far from you; you will not need to be afraid: for terror and destruction will not come near you.

Behold, if they gather together to attack you, it will not be my doing: whoever gathers together against you will fall before you.

Behold, I have created the smith who blows on the fire of coals, and who produces a weapon for his purpose; but I have also created the destroyer ready to destroy it.

No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; and you will condemn every tongue that brings an accusation against you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is from me, says the LORD.
