THE BOOK OF JOHN

John Chapter 2

¶ On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:

And Jesus, and his disciples, were invited to the wedding.

And when the wine was gone, the mother of Jesus said to him, They have no wine.

Jesus then said to her, Woman, what does that have to do with me? my hour has not yet come.

But his mother said to the servants, Do whatever he tells you.

Now there were six stone water jars sitting there, the kind used by the Jews for purification, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.

Jesus said to them, Fill the water jars with water. And they filled them to the brim.

Then he said to them, Now draw some out, and take it to the steward of the feast. And they did so.

When the steward of the feast tasted the water that was made wine, not knowing where it was from: (but the servants who drew the water knew;) he called the bridegroom,

And said to him, Everyone serves the best wine first; and when the guests have drunk freely, then that which is poorer: but you have kept the best wine until now.

This the first of miracles was performed by Jesus at Cana in Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

¶ After this he went down to Capernaum, along with his mother, his brothers, and his disciples: and they stayed there a few days.

When the Jewish passover was near, Jesus went up to Jerusalem,

And in the temple found money changers sitting there, and others who were selling oxen, sheep, and doves:

And after he had made a scourge out of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, along with the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overturned their tables;

And told those who sold doves, Take these things out; do not make my Father’s house a house of merchandise.

And his disciples remembered that it was written, The zeal of your house has eaten me up.

Then the Jews responded by demanding, What sign can you show us, seeing that you do these things?

Jesus answered, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

Then the Jews said, It took Forty-six years to build this temple, and you will raise it up in three days?

But he was speaking of the temple of his body.

Therefore after he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this to them; and they believed the scripture, and the word that Jesus had spoken.

¶ Now while he was in Jerusalem at the passover, during the feast, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles that he did.

But Jesus did not commit himself to them, because he knew all men,

And he did not need anyone to tell him what men were like: for he knew what was in man.
