John Chapter 21

¶ After this Jesus showed himself to the disciples by the sea of Tiberias; and this is what happened.

Simon Peter, Thomas called Didymus, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two of his other disciples were together.

When Simon Peter said, I’m going fishing. The others said, We are going with you. So they immediately went out, and got into a boat; but all that night they did not catch anything.

However when morning came, Jesus was standing on the shore: but the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.

Then Jesus called out to them, Children, do you have any fish? And they answered, No.

And he said, Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some. So they threw out the net, and then they could not pull it in because there were so many fish.

Then that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, It is the Lord. And when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his fisherman’s coat, (for he had stripped,) and jumped into the sea.

And the other disciples came in the small boat; (for they were not far from shore, only about a hundred yards,) dragging the net full of fish.

As soon as they stepped out on the shore, they saw a fire of coals there, with fish lying on them, and bread.

Jesus then said to them, Bring some of the fish that you just caught.

So Simon Peter climbed aboard, and dragged the net full of fish to shore, an hundred and fifty-three: and even though there were so many, the net was not broken.

Jesus then said, Come and eat. And none of the disciples ventured to ask him, Who are you? they knew it was the Lord.

Jesus then came, and took the bread, and gave it to them, and also the fish.

Now this was the third time that Jesus showed himself to his disciples, after he had risen from the dead.

¶ So after they had eaten, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, do you love me more than these? And he said, Yes, Lord; you know that I love you. Jesus then said, Feed my lambs.

He asked him a second time, Simon, son of Jonas, do you love me? He again said, Yes, Lord; you know that I love you. Jesus replied, Feed my sheep.

He asked him a third time, Simon, son of Jonas, do you love me? Peter was grieved because he asked him a third time, Do you love me? And he said to him, Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you. Jesus replied, Feed my sheep.

Truly, truly, I tell you, When you were young, you would fasten your belt, and go where you wanted to: but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will tie you, and take you where you do not want to go.

Jesus said this, to indicate by what kind of death Peter would glorify God. And after saying that, he said, Follow me.

¶ Then Peter, turned, and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them; the one who reclined next to Jesus at the supper, and asked, Lord, who is it who will betray you?

And seeing him Peter said to Jesus, Lord, what will this man do?

Jesus replied, If I want him to remain here until I come, what is that to you? follow me.

Then the rumor spread among the brethren, that that disciple would not die: but Jesus did not say, He will not die; but, If I want him to remain here until I come, what is that to you?

This is the disciple who testifies to these things, and who wrote them down: and we know that his testimony is true.

And Jesus also did many other things, which, if every one of them was written down, I suppose that the entire world would not have room for the books that would be written. Amen.
