THE BOOK OF MARK

Mark Chapter 13

¶ As he left the temple, one of his disciples said to him, Master, look at what massive stones and what magnificent buildings are here!

And Jesus said to him, Do you see these great buildings? there will not be one stone left upon another, that will not be thrown down.

And as Jesus was sitting on the mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John and Andrew asked him privately,

Tell us, when will these things happen? and what will be the sign when all these things are about to be fulfilled?

¶ Then Jesus began by saying, Be careful that no one deceives you:

For many will come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and will deceive many.

And when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled: for such things must happen; but that is not the end.

For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles: these are the beginning of sorrows.

But be on your guard: for they will hand you over to councils; and you will be beaten in the synagogues: and you will be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, as a testimony to them.

And the gospel must first be preached to all nations.

But when they arrest you, and deliver you up for trial, do not worry beforehand about what you will say, nor plan it ahead: but speak what is given to you at the time: for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.

Now brother will betray brother to death, and a father his son; and children will rise up against their parents, and will cause them to be put to death.

And you will be hated by all men for my name’s sake: but he who endures to the end, will be saved.

¶ But when you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it does not belong, (let him who reads understand,) then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains:

And let him who is on the housetop not go down into the house, or enter it, to take any thing out:

And let him who is in the field not go back to get his cloak.

But woe to those who are with child, and to those who give suck in those days!

Pray that your flight is not in the winter.

For those will be days of distress, unequalled from the beginning of God’s creation to this time, and never will be again.

And if the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would survive: but for the sake of the elect, whom he has chosen, he has shortened the days.

At that time if anyone says to you, Look, here is Christ; or, look, he is there; do not believe him:

For false Christs and false prophets will appear, and perform signs and wonders, to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

So be on your guard: behold, I have told you everything beforehand.

¶ But in those days, following that distress, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light,

And the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.

And then they will see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.

And then he will send his angels, and will gather together his elect from the four winds, from the most distant part of the earth to most distant part of heaven.

¶ Now learn a lesson from the fig tree; When its branch becomes tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near:

Likewise, when you see these things come to pass, know that it is near, even at the door.

I tell you truly, that this generation will not pass away, until all these things have taken place.

Heaven and earth will pass away: but my words will not pass away.

But of that day and hour no one knows, no, not the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.

Be on your guard, watch and pray: for you do not know when the time is.

For the Son of man is like a man taking a long journey, who leaves his house, giving authority to his servants, assigning to every man his duty, and commanding the doorkeeper to watch.

Therefore watch: for you do not know when the master of the house comes, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn:

Lest he come suddenly and find you asleep.

What I am saying to you I say to everyone, Watch.
