THE BOOK OF PROVERBS
Proverbs 29
1 ¶ He, who being often reproved hardens his neck, will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
2 ¶ When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked bear rule, the people mourn.
3 ¶ Whoever loves wisdom makes his father rejoice: but he who keeps company with harlots wastes his wealth.
4 ¶ By justice the king strengthens the land: but he who takes bribes subverts it.
5 ¶ A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.
6 ¶ To an evil man sin is a snare: but the righteous avoids it and rejoices.
7 ¶ A righteous judge considers the case of the poor: but the wicked has no desire to know it.
8 ¶ Scornful men put a city in an uproar: but wise men turn away anger.
9 ¶ If a wise man contends with a foolish man, whether he rages or laughs, there is no satisfaction.
10 ¶ Bloodthirsty men hate one who is blameless: and the wicked seek his life.
11 ¶ A fool says everything he thinks: but a wise man keeps it in till afterwards.
12 ¶ If a ruler listens to lies, all his servants will be wicked.
13 ¶ The poor man and the oppressor are alike in this: the LORD gives light to the eyes of both.
14 ¶ When a king honestly provides justice for the poor, his throne will be secure for ever.
15 ¶ The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself brings his mother to shame.
16 ¶ When the wicked multiply, crime increases: but the righteous will see their downfall.
17 ¶ Correct your son, and he will give you rest; yes, he will give delight to your soul.
18 ¶ Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he who keeps the law, is blessed.
19 ¶ A slave cannot be disciplined by words: for even though he understands he will not respond.
20 ¶ Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? there is more hope for a fool than for him.
21 ¶ He who pampers his slave from childhood will have him become his son in the end.
22 ¶ An angry man stirs up a fight, and a furious man does much that is wrong.
23 ¶ A man’s pride will bring him low: but he who is of a humble spirit will obtain honor.
24 ¶ Anyone who is partner with a thief hates his own soul: he is put under oath, but discloses nothing.
25 ¶ The fear of man brings a snare: but whoever puts his trust in the LORD will be safe.
26 ¶ Many seek the ruler’s favor; but every man’s judgment comes from the LORD.
27 ¶ A wicked man is detested by the righteous: and he who is upright in the way is detested by the wicked.
