THE BOOK OF PSALMS

Psalms 1-3

1 ¶ Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, or stand in the way of sinners, or sit in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and he meditates on his law day and night.

3 For he will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season; his leaf also will not wither; and whatever he does will prosper.

4 ¶ The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff that the wind drives away.

5 Therefore the ungodly will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly will perish.

Psalm 2

1 ¶ Why do the heathen rage, and the people plot in vain?

2 The kings of the earth take their stand, and the rulers conspire together, against the LORD, and against his Messiah his anointed, saying,

3 Let us tear off their chains, and free ourselves from their restraint.

4 He who sits in the heavens will laugh: the Lord will have contempt for them.

5 Then he will speak to them in his anger, and terrify them by his wrath.

6 Yet have I installed my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

7 ¶ I will declare the decree: the LORD has said to me, You are my Son; this day have I begotten you.

8 Ask me, and I will give you the heathen for your inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for your possession.

9 You will break them with a rod of iron; you will smash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.

10 ¶ Therefore be wise, O you kings: be warned, you judges of the earth.

11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

12 Embrace the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, in a moment when his anger is aroused. Blessed are all those who put their trust in him.

Psalm 3

A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.

1 ¶ LORD, how those who trouble me have increased! those who rise up against me are many.

2 There are many who say of me, There is no help for him in God. Selah.

3 But you, O LORD, are a shield for me; my glory, and the one who lifts up my head.

4 ¶ I cried aloud to the LORD, and he heard me from his holy mountain. Selah.

5 I lie down and sleep; and awake; because the LORD sustained me.

6 I will not be afraid of tens of thousands, who attack me on all sides.

7 Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for you have struck all my enemies on the cheek; you have broken the teeth of the ungodly.

8 Salvation belongs to the LORD: your blessing is upon your people. Selah.
