THE BOOK OF PSALMS

Psalms 116-118

1 ¶ I love the LORD, because he has heard my prayer and my plea for mercy.

2 Because he has inclined his ear to me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.

3 The sorrows of death surrounded me, and the terrors of hell took hold of me: I suffered anguish and sorrow.

4 Then I called on the name of the LORD; O LORD, I beg you, save my soul.

5 The LORD is kind, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.

6 The LORD preserves the helpless: I was brought low, and he helped me.

7 Return to your rest, O my soul; for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.

8 For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.

9 I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living.

10 ¶ I believed, even when I said: I am severely afflicted:

11 In my panic I said, Everyone is lying.

12 What could I give to the LORD for all the good he has done for me?

13 I will accept the cup of salvation, and call on the name of the LORD.

14 I will pay my vows to the LORD now in the presence of all his people.

15 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.

16 O LORD, truly I am your servant; I am your servant, and the son of your handmaid: you have loosed the ropes that bound me.

17 I will offer to you a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD.

18 I will pay my vows to the LORD now in the presence of all his people,

19 In the courts of the LORD’S house, in the midst of you, O Jerusalem. Praise the LORD.

Psalm 117

1 ¶ O praise the LORD, all you nations: praise him, all you people.

2 For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endures for ever. Praise the LORD.

Psalm 118

1 ¶ O give thanks to the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endures for ever.

2 Let Israel now say, that his mercy endures for ever.

3 Let the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endures for ever.

4 Let those who fear the LORD now say, that his mercy endures for ever.

5 I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me free.

6 The LORD is on my side; I will not be afraid: what can man do to me?

7 The LORD takes my part and helps me: therefore I will look in triumph on those who hate me.

8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

9 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.

10 All nations surrounded me: but in the name of the LORD will I destroy them.

11 They surrounded me; yea, they encircled me on every side: but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.

12 They surrounded me like bees; but were quenched like burning thorns: for I have cut them off in the name of the LORD.

13 You have pushed hard at me to make me fall: but the LORD helped me.

14 The LORD is my strength and song, and has saved me.

15 The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous: the right hand of the LORD works mightily.

16 The right hand of the LORD is exalted: the right hand of the LORD is working mightily.

17 I will not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.

18 The LORD has punished me severely: but he did not let me die.

19 ¶ Open the gates of righteousness for me: I will enter through them, and I will praise the LORD:

20 This is the gate of the LORD, through which the righteous will enter.

21 I will praise you: for you have heard me, and have become my savior.

22 The stone that the builders refused has become the cornerstone.

23 This is the LORD’S doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.

24 This is the day that the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

25 Save us, we beseech you, O LORD: O LORD, we plead with you, give us success.

26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you from the house of the LORD.

27 The LORD is God, he has given us light: bind the festive sacrifice to the horns of the altar with cords.

28 You are my God, and I will praise you: you are my God, I will exalt you.

29 O give thanks to the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endures for ever.
