THE BOOK OF PSALMS

Psalms 19-21

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.

1 ¶ The heavens declare the glory of God; and the expanse reveals his handiwork.

2 Day after day they pour out speech, and night after night they communicate knowledge.

3 There is no speech or spoken language, where their voice is not heard.

4 Yet their message goes out through all the earth, and what they say to the most distant part of the world. In the heavens God has set a tabernacle for the sun,

5 Who is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and like a strong man eager to run a race.

6 It goes out from one end of the heavens, and circles around to the other end: and there is nothing hidden from its heat.

7 ¶ The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

8 The statutes of the LORD are right, delighting the mind: the commandment of the LORD is pure, giving light to the eyes.

9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

10 They are more desirable than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

11 Moreover by them your servant is warned: and in keeping them there is great reward.

12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse me O Lord from hidden faults.

13 Keep your servant back from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then I will be upright, and I will be innocent of the great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Psalm 20

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.

1 ¶ May the LORD hear you in the day of trouble; may the name of the God of Jacob defend you;

2 May he send help from the sanctuary, and support from Zion;

3 May he remember all your offerings, and accept your burnt sacrifice; Selah.

4 May he grant your heart’s desire, and give you all you have in mind.

5 We will rejoice in your salvation, and in the name of our God we will raise our banners: may the LORD carry out all your requests.

6 ¶ Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.

7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will trust in the name of the LORD our God.

8 They fall and are brought down: but we shall rise, and stand firm.

9 LORD, save the king: and hear us when we call.

Psalm 21

To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.

1 ¶ The king will rejoice in your strength, O LORD; and in your salvation how greatly will he rejoice!

2 You have given him his heart’s desire, and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah.

3 For you meet him with the blessings of goodness: you place a crown of pure gold on his head.

4 He asked you for life, and you gave it to him, even long life forever and ever.

5 His glory is great because of your salvation: you have bestowed honor and majesty upon him.

6 For you have given him blessings that last forever: you have made him exceedingly glad by your presence.

7 ¶ For the king trusts in the LORD, and through the mercy of the most High he will not be moved.

8 Your hand will find all your enemies: your right hand will find those who hate you.

9 You will make them like a fiery oven in the time of your anger: the LORD will swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire will devour them.

10 You will destroy their fruit from the earth, and their descendants from among the children of men.

11 For they planned evil against you: they conceived a mischievous plot, which they are not able to perform.

12 Therefore you will make them turn their backs, when you place your arrows upon your strings and aim them at their faces.

13 LORD, rise in your might: then we will sing and praise your power.
