THE BOOK OF PSALMS

Psalms 32-34

A Psalm of David, a song of wisdom.

1 ¶ Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

2 Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no self-deception.

3 When I kept silent, my bones grew old through my groaning all the day long.

4 For your hand was heavy upon me day and night: my moisture was turned into the drought of summer. Selah.

5 I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not hide my iniquity. I said, I will confess my transgressions to the LORD; and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

6 Therefore let every one who is godly pray to you in a time when you may be found: surely when the great waters overflow they will not reach him.

7 ¶ You are my hiding place; you will preserve me from trouble; you will surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah.

8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way that you should go: I will guide you with my eye.

9 Do not be like the horse, or the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held firm with bit and bridle, else they will not come with you.

10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked: but he who trusts in the LORD, will be surrounded with mercy.

11 Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, you righteous ones: and shout for joy, all you who are honest in heart.

Psalm 33

1 ¶ Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous: for praise is appropriate for the upright.

2 Praise the LORD with harp: sing to him with the lyre and an instrument of ten strings.

3 Sing to him a new song; play skillfully with a joyful shout.

4 For the word of the LORD is right; and you can trust everything he does.

5 He loves righteousness and justice: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.

6 The LORD made the heavens by his word; and all the stars by the breath of his mouth.

7 He gathers the waters of the sea together as in a container: he puts the deep in storage.

8 Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.

9 For he spoke, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.

10 The LORD brings the counsel of the heathen to nothing: he makes the devices of the people of no effect.

11 The counsel of the LORD stands forever, what he proposes is for all time.

12 ¶ Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.

13 The LORD looks from heaven; he beholds all the sons of men.

14 From his dwelling place he looks upon all the inhabitants of the earth.

15 He sees the hearts of them all; he is aware of all they do.

16 No king is saved by the size of his army: a mighty man is not delivered by his great strength.

17 An horse is a false hope for safety: it will not deliver anyone by its great strength.

18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon those who fear him, upon those who trust in his mercy;

19 To save their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

20 We wait for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.

21 For our hearts delight in him, because we trust in his holy name.

22 Let your mercy be upon us, O LORD, as we look hopefully to you.

Psalm 34

A Psalm of David, when he pretended to be insane before Abimelech;

who then drove him away.

1 ¶ I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise will continually be in my mouth.

2 My soul will make its boast in the LORD: the humble will hear of it, and be glad.

3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.

4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all that I feared.

5 They looked to him, and were radiant: and their faces were not ashamed.

6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.

8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man who trusts in him.

9 O fear the LORD, you his saints: for those who fear him lack nothing.

10 The young lions may be in need, and go hungry: but those who seek the LORD will not lack any good thing.

11 ¶ Come, you children, listen to me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

12 What man is there who desires life, and wants to live long, and enjoy good things?

13 Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit.

14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

15 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry.

16 The face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off all memory of them from the earth.

17 The righteous cry, and the LORD hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.

18 The LORD is near to those who are of a broken heart; and saves those who are of a contrite spirit.

19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivers him out of them all.

20 He keeps all his bones: not one of them is broken.

21 Evil will slay the wicked: and those who hate the righteous will be condemned.

22 The LORD redeems the soul of his servants: and none of those who trust in him will be condemned.
