WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY
ABOUT JESUS CHRIST, THE GOD-MAN ?

1. DID THE PROMISED MESSIAH AND SAVIOR COME ?
 THE BIBLE SAYS -

  (a b) Luke 2:11. Unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. (The names Christ and Messiah are identical, both meaning The Anointed.)
 (a) Acts 10:38. God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power.
  (a) John 4:25, 26. The woman saith unto Him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when He is come, He will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am He.
  (a) Matt. 11:2-6. When John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples and said unto Him, Art Thou He that should come, or do we look for another ? Jesus answered and said unto them. go and show John again those things which ye do hear and see: the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the Gospel preached to them. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in Me.
  (a) Luke 24:44. All things must be fulfilled, which were written in the Law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning Me.
 *(b) Matt. 1:21. She shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call His name Jesus: for he shall save
  His people from their sins. (The name Jesus means Savior.)
 *(b) Acts 4:12. Neither is there salvation in any other; for there is none other name under heaven
  given among men, whereby we must be saved.

FROM THIS WE LEARN -
 (A) Jesus of Nazareth is the promised Messiah, or Christ.
  (B) He is the only Savior of all mankind. (Other names for Jesus Christ are: Lord, Redeemer, Savior, The Word, Son of God, Son of Man, Angel of the Lord [Old Testament] Emmanuel.)
 

 2. WHAT DO THE SCRIPTURES TEACH OF THE DEITY, OR GODHOOD, OF JESUS CHRIST ?
 THE BIBLE SAYS -

 *(a) 1 John 5:20. This is the true God, and eternal Life.
 (a) John 20:28. Thomas answered and said unto Him, My Lord and my God.
 (a) Rom. 8:32. God spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all.
  (a b) John 1:1, 2. In the beginning was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. (Eternity.)
 (b) Heb. 13:8. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever. (Unchangeableness.)
 *(b) Matt. 28:20. Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. (Omnipresence.)
 (b) John 21:17. Lord, Thou knowest all things. (Omniscience.)
 (b) Matt. 28:18. All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. (Omnipotence.)
  (c) John. 1:3. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. (Creation.)
 (c) Heb. 1:3. (He upholds) all things by the Word of His power. (Preservation.)
 (c) Matt. 9:6. The Son of Man hath power on earth to forgive sins.
 (c) John 5:27. (The Father) hath given Him authority to execute judgment.
 (d) John 5:23. All men should honor the Son even as they honor the Father.
 (d) Heb. 1:6. Let all the angels of God worship Him.

FROM THIS WE LEARN -
 The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ is true God, ascribing to Him.
 (A) Divine names;
 (B) Divine attributes;
 (C) Divine works;
 (D) Divine honor and glory.
 

 3. WHAT DO THE SCRIPTURES TEACH OF THE HUMANITY OF JESUS CHRIST ? THE BIBLE SAYS -

  (a) 1 Tim. 2:5. There is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
  (b) Luke 24:39. Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself: handle Me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see Me have.
 (b) Matt. 26:38. My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death.
  (c) Luke 2:7. (Jesus was born.) Mark 4:38. (Jesus slept.) Matt. 4:2. (Jesus hungered.) John 19:28. (Jesus thirsted.) John 11:35. (Jesus wept.) Matt. 26 and 27. (Jesus suffered and died.)

FROM THIS WE LEARN-
 The Bible
 (A) Expressly calls Jesus Christ a man;
 (B) Ascribes unto Him a human body and soul;
 (C) Ascribes unto Him human feelings and actions.
 

4. WHO, THEN, IS JESUS CHRIST ?
 THE BIBLE SAYS -

  Matt. 16:13, 16. (Jesus) asked His disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of Man am ?... And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
  Rom. 9:5 Of whom (the fathers) as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen.

FROM THIS WE LEARN -
 Jesus Christ is true God and true man in one person. (God-man.)
 

5. WHY DID OUR SAVIOR HAVE TO BE TRUE MAN ?
 THE BIBLE SAYS -

  (a) Gal. 4:4, 5. When the fullness of time was come, God sent forth His son, made of a woman, made under the Law, to redeem them that were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
  (b) Heb. 2:14. Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also Himself likewise took part of the same; that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.

FROM THIS WE LEARN -
 Our Savior had to be true man
 (A) That He might take our place under the Law;
 (B) That He might be able to suffer and die in our stead.
 

6. WHY DID OUR SAVIOR HAVE TO BE TRUE GOD ?
 THE BIBLE SAYS -

 (a) Rom. 5:19. By the obedience of One shall many be made righteous.
  (b) Mark 10:45. The Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many.
  (c) 1 Cor. 15:55, 57. O death, where is thy sting ? O grave, where is thy victory ? ... Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
  (c) Heb. 2:14. Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood. He also Himself likewise took part of the same; that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.

FROM THIS WE LEARN -
 Our Savior had to be true God
 (A) That his fulfilling of the Law might be sufficient for all men;
 (B) That his life and death might be a sufficient ransom for our redemption;
 (C) That he might be able to overcome death and the devil for us.
